Rhyner’s most recent album, Kinhin, was released in 2017 and features original music and jazz standards. We are excited to have the Charlier Ryner trio at Winston for the first time.
SWIRL is Jimmy Vasilopolous on acoustic guitar and Alan Johnson on hand drums and various percussion. SWIRL was born during an impromptu rehearsal in the duo’s home studio in 2007. The choice of traditional instruments – a classical guitar and an assortment of African and Egyptian hand drums, shakers and percussive ‘things’ – was the only pre-determined factor, and the music that flowed from the duo was completely organic and rooted in a decade of past gigs together. The duo performs original music with total chemistry. This will be a night to remember!
Rooted in percussive acoustic guitar and soulful vocals, Drew Bordeaux laces his sound with live loops and violin solos. Meshing core influences – from blues to popular radio – the resulting sound harkens to Bill Withers and Richie Havens, with the energy and spirit of 80s New Wave, such as The Police and Talking Heads, and the contemporary sonic stamp of Ed Sheeran, Ben Harper and David Gray.
Bordeaux has opened for Daughtry and Boz Scaggs, has shared the bill with KT Tunstall and Guster, is now regularly performs in the Member’s Only room of The Paramount (Huntington, NY).
Vocalist and Upright Bassist, Chris Conte performs classic, swinging American Songbook jazz & blues favorites. He takes influence from musical legends, such as Nat “King” Cole, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Steve Tyrell, Harry Connick Jr., and Diana Krall, while his voice is often compared to that of a young Chet Baker or Mel Torme. His performance will satisfy audiences of all types. While his singing, bass playing, and band mates will be featured, the real stars of the night are the timeless songs.
